What stands out here is how the Ancestral Puebloans understood microclimate engineering through stone placement. Those alcove locations weren't just defensive, they leveraged thermal mass and sun angles for passive heating/cooling. I visited a few years ago and the stonework precision without morter still blows my mind. Each stone had to be individually selected and fitted.
