I hope that you were mostly immune to all of that conspicuous consumption and survived it with your finances and sense of well-being intact. REI closes their doors on Black Friday with the idea that everyone might stay outdoors for another day of fun. That is a responsible commercial model—but it leaves countless other retailers and 364 other days to reinvent.
If you are shopping for a gift for someone like me, then at the top of my wish list is Cormac McCarthy’s impending “The Passenger Box Set: The Passenger, Stella Maris” to be released December 6, 2022. This is McCarthy’s first book release since “The Road” was published in September 2006.
